Downtown Aquarium - Houston
We tried a new family friendly destination, the Aquarium. It's more of a full day destination with multiple activities, some I wouldn't consider toddler-friendly. You can enjoy the ferris wheel, train ride, water fountain/dance floor with a DJ, the restaurant and of course, the aquarium.
I have to give it mixed reviews. First of all the aquarium isn't as large as I would have liked but walking around with 2 toddlers means you can take your time and make it last since you won't be walking too far. Enjoy the petting ponds for as long as you can, those are pretty cool. Once you reach the gorgeous white tigers, you've reached the end of the road which dead ends into the gift shop. For the record, there's a gift shop nazi in there who won't let you back into the tiger exhibit even if you get separated from your group. The aquarium gets 3 stars.
We managed to get through with our double stroller so the halls are wide enough but there are only bathrooms at the beginning and the end of the exhibit, nothing in the middle. So be sure to visit the bathroom before you walk in if you're not sure you'll make it because you'll have to rush the rest of the aquarium to find the next bathroom.
Once you get through the gift shop you can hit the restaurant or the lounge for some drinks. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good though the menu had everything on it that you'd just walked through the aquarium to see, seems wrong. And the wait staff is knowledgeable about the huge tank in the middle of the restaurant and all its residents. We were impressed with the overall experience, the food, the fish and the service. The restaurant gets 4.5 stars!
When my 2 little ones are a little older then the rest of the stuff outside the aquarium will be fun but for now those 2 were enough.
